The face is the main centre of attraction in the body. It will only bloom if proper care is given. On the surface, your skin may appear dull and show signs of premature aging, such as fine lines, uneven tone, and a rough texture. Underneath that flaky, dull surface hides a flawless canvas waiting to emerge. Exfoliating helps to strip away that old and dead skin, helping a youthful you shine through.
We have different types of exfoliator but they are all sub-divided under this main 3; scrubs, chemicals and enzymes exfoliator.
- For scrubs we have DIY facial scrub and already made scrub we purchase from the beauty shop. Top 5 best natural exfoliants; 1. Baking soda Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is the main ingredient in many expensive exfoliation products. 2. Sugar Sugar is a natural source of glycolic acid. Glycolic acid boosts new cell production and breaks down the protein that keeps the dead cells hanging onto your skin. 3. Oatmeal Oatmeal is a very gentle exfoliant, so it’s perfect for sensitive skin. It is a natural anti-inflammatory and is very moisturizing. 4. Yogurt/kefir Kefir is like yogurt, but with a lot more beneficial bacteria (about 40 times more). Kefir is a natural source of lactic acid that hydrates and soothes your skin. You can use yogurt and still see benefits, but you will see better results using kefir. 5. Sea salt Sea salt is full of trace minerals that rejuvenate your skin, stimulate cell growth, and help your skin retail moisture. A sea salt scrub is great for dry skin. - Chemical exfoliators includes products that chemically dissolve the intercellular glue that holds dead (keratinized) skin cells together. This type of skin exfoliation penetrates the upper layers of the skin for a more complete removal of dead surface cells. Here are a few chemical exfoliant choices: 1. THE LEAVE-ON GEL: Leave-on gel exfoliant visibly smoothes skin with powerful alpha hydroxy acids including glycolic and multi-fruit acids. 2. THE UNDER-EYE EXFOLIANT: If you want to target crows feet or dark circles, use under-eye exfoliant. This fast-acting formula is designed specifically for the skin under these eyes. 3. THE 15-MIN PURGE MASK: The deep purging facial mask reveals fresh, radiant skin with the help of citric and malic acids.
- Enzymatic exfoliation is a plant active based therapy. Enzymes have a proteolytic effect and induce superficial exfoliation on the cells of the stratum corneum. - See more at: http://www.skininc.com/treatments/facial/exfoliating/Exfoliating-Naturally-with-Enzymes-324360131.html#sthash.mhxni6rf.dpuf
You exfoliate in a circular motion and can make use of a washcloth or just your hands. For sensitive part of the face you can make use of an exfoliating brush.
The absolute maximum you should be exfoliating your skin is 3 times a week. If you have a sensitive or delicate skin, it is advisable to exfoliate lesser.
Overexfoliating can create tiny cracks in the skin surface barrier that lead to further loss of hydration and cause inflammation, stripping away valuable layers of healthy cells, thereby reducing the skin's natural defenses. You may think you're improving your complexion, but you are actually making it worst.
